ABC's John Stossel Destroys/Pulverizes/Crushes Obama's anti-American 'Health Care' Plan

I thought long and hard about touching this very political issue, but given that it is so important, I opted to make some enemies.

Remember there is an important reason profit driven organizations excel! This is not to say that it is perfect, but wow we can't throw the baby with the wash.

I was hoping they would say something about the millions of Americans who can't afford health insurance.

USA! USA! USA!

I don't think anyone is arguing that the US has the best health care machinery in the world. The argument is about fiscal prudence and social justice. What good is it to own so many CAT scanning machines when a tenth of the population doesn't have health insurance? Why does America pay double per capita vs any other country, for less effective care?

America is still losing about a half million jobs a month. You lose your job in America, you lose your health insurance. It's a double whammy, and one that every other industrialized nation thinks is unfair.

Innovation is good. Affordable and accessible is better.

Sorry,

He is an entertainer just like the other media talking heads both "for and against" whichever political party is in control.

One can easily cherry pick stories that tell of the wonders of the Canadian and British systems.

This kind of reporting (and again it is not only pieces opposing the reform proposals)is not at all helpful in evaluating any arguments on this issue.

We need well documented, well reasoned arguments and proposals, not pieces that are deliberately crafted to support a particular position.

However, remember that John Stossel has created his media image and it works for him. He has followers, many of whom easily forget that he is foremost an entertainer (same with Keith Olberman, O'Reilly, et al).

Without innovation affordable and accessible are meaningless.

It is obvious that the current "reform" will result in rationing and exploding costs. Real market-based reform is needed.

1. Don't tie insurance to employment.
2. Allow individuals the same tax advantage in buying insurance as companies.
3. Allow competition across state lines.
4. Provide vouchers (like food stamps) for those belong some income threshold.
5. Remember that insurance should protect against large losses not routine or elective care.

Have you stopped to think how long the wait is going to be to see a physician when the numbers of doctors is not rising, but the amount of patients are going to double. Result, long waits to see that family doc. Until we have many more doctors going into practice this plan will just not fly.
