"An overwhelming majority — 87.6 percent — of finance chiefs reported that companies have shortened the payoff horizons of their investment decisions to coincide with the shorter tenure of executives. That result does not augur well for the U.S. economy in the long run, notes Campbell Harvey, a Duke professor.
